I was with a client the other day. We were talking about weight loss. She said:

“It’s weird, I know I can do it, but I don’t believe I can.”

I asked her if she was married or wanted to get married one day. She said yes, she wants to get married one day.

When people are at the altar or wherever, most people don’t go “I Do” but think “Well, I kinda do but I don’t really believe this is gonna work.”

Most people say “I Do” with unwavering certainty and conviction that that’s it, for life.

And this is considering you’ve to do it “for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health… until death do us apart!”   It’s a whole lot to ask of anyone to be honest, yet we keep saying “I Do”, and we really believe that will be it.

But when you think about it, by the time we get to that moment, most people have spent a few years at the least with their partner. They’ve gotten to know them; the good, the bad and the ugly – as I say.

They’ve probably shared some great times together, and some tough times too. They’ve laughed, cried, talked, argued, maybe even split up for a while and gotten back together… they’ve learned about each other and learned to compromise…

And yet, you embark on a new health and fitness journey (or any other journey for that matter) and believe that you must believe you can do it 100% before you do it.

Makes no sense to me.

“You don’t believe you can do this because you’re comparing your new “partner” (health plan) to all the partners (diets) you had before and you broke up with because they were just assholes…”

You’ve got to give your new partner a fair chance to start with, get to know them properly, and also stop comparing it to old partners.
