Is your mind racing? Has your negative thinking gotten out of control? Time for a brain detox!

A lot of the toxins we absorb daily though food, drink, fumes, beauty products, etc end up in our fat stores and also in our brain. And when we entertain negative thoughts, our brain and body also release toxic chemicals we don’t want in our system for too long either.

Thankfully, our fabulous body goes to great extents to keep us alive; it pushes harmful toxins as far away from our vital organs as possible so we don’t die.

This works especially well if you’re a woman, because our fat stores are typically located in and around the butt and thigh region. For men it’s a little trickier and more dangerous, as they tend to store fat around the belly, much closer to important organs such as the liver, heart and lungs.

Most toxins are stored in our fat stores. Wanna get rid of the toxins? Gotta get rid of the fat!

People use all sorts of methods and gimmicks to detox. Some work ok and others are plain ridiculous.

A simple and effective way to detoxify is to optimize and increase your lean mass.

You can’t store toxins in the absence of fat.

I personally recommend these 3 things:

1. Regular exercise. You want to sweat a lot and increase muscle mass, so get lifting some weights!

Keep in mind that when you sweat, you lose a lot of minerals and even vitamins, so make sure you replenish with electrolytes, sodium, magnesium and potassium. Coconut water is a great rehydrator. It’s a powerhouse of natural electrolytes, vitamins, minerals, trace elements, amino acids, enzymes, antioxidants and phytonutrients, and is low in sugar.

2. Infrared sauna sessions. After exercise get into a sauna for about an hour. This will really help speed up the detox process.

The sauna heats your tissues several inches deep, which can enhance your natural metabolic processes. It also enhances circulation and helps oxygenate your tissues.

3. Supplement with Niacin. An important vitamin that when missing from your diet can cause irritability, poor concentration, anxiety, fatigue, restlessness, apathy, and depression. It’s also a key player in the brain detox process!

Vitamin B3, also known as Niacin, is an essential vitamin required for processing fat in the body and regulating blood sugar levels. Niacin has been found to mobilize fat and toxins faster. Some foods high in niacin are: avocado, sunflower seeds, fresh green peas, beef, mushrooms, liver, oily fish, chicken.

Dr. George Yu, of George Washington University, has been  involved with some very exciting clinical trials to help detoxify people from the Gulf War. For fast and effective detoxification he recommends we supplement our nutrition with 50-100mg of Niacin, taken 20 minutes before exercise.

So there you go, 3 simple and effective ways to detoxify your body and your brain!
