There’s no point treating yourself to the LBD of your dreams if you can’t zip it up. The key to de-bloating is controlling levels of harmful bacteria and yeasts in the gut. The longer it takes to digest food the longer it stays in the bowel fermenting and causing bloating and flatulence. Avoid this by making sure you eat plenty of green leafy vegetables with all your meals over Christmas, and making sure you chew your food thoroughly and with your mouth shut.


Thinking of skipping breakfast or lunch just so you can eat a bigger dinner or drink more later? Big mistake. Studies show that people who eat at regular intervals during the day tend to be calmer and more positive, and are less likely to fluctuate in weight as they’re not as tempted by fatty festive foods. Stick with your normal meal routine and if hungry snack on fresh berries or nuts. If you’re taking a break from the gym, a daily brisk walk or trek in the fresh winter air will keep your body and mind in tip top shape.


Too much alcohol and fatty foods means the liver as too put in extra work. To stay looking fresh and feeling perky during the festive season eat plenty of liver supporting foods: broccoli, garlic, beetroot, flaxseeds, walnuts, avocado… and supplement with Vitamin C, or the tried and tested milk thistle, artichoke, or dandelion.


Overdid it on the eggnog? Alcohol is not only a depressant but highly toxic, acidic and dehydrating, which can result in massive hangovers and the dreaded cold or flu. Minimize damage by drinking plenty of clean mineral water throughout the day and in between alcoholic drinks. Foods such as spinach, carrots, celery, beetroot, ginger, blueberries, and papaya are highly alkaline and packed with health boosting antioxidants.

Stressed out or tired all over? Take a few minutes to lie on the floor – make sure you’re warm – drop your shoulders down onto the floor and allow your feet and legs to fall naturally to the sides whilst you focus on the point in between your eyes. As you breathe in let your chest raise, and as you breathe out allow your chest to sink. Do this a few times as you elongate your breathing and tell yourself over and over again to juuust relaaaax.
